Jack Murphy Cederholm

JackFor whatever reason, our little guy wanted out 6 weeks earlier than expected. Jack Murphy Cederholm was born Sunday afternoon at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He’s a tiny and beautiful 4lbs 8oz. Both Kerry and baby are doing great. The unexpected surprise means spending a few weeks in the hospital before we can go home. But it also means we need to quickly buy Jack a Christmas gift (not to mention all the other last minute preparations we’d planned for after the holidays).

Such a wide range of emotions over the past two days. Fear, joy, anxiety, and those other emotions that you can’t even apply a word to. Right now, we’re just hoping he continues to grow and that we can get home as soon as possible.

Here’s to life’s surprises.

Congratulations Dan, this is truly an awesome blessing especially in this season of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a December baby myself, I know what it is like to get Christmas and birthday presents. Jack is a very blessed child. I will celebrate with Jack because my birthday is on the 24th. Congratulations again and may God bless you and your family. PS I am inspired by and love your work and I have purchased both of your books. Thanks for all the help you have provided to me on my projects. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  261. Dom says:

Go little Jack! Now there’s a kid who’s ahead of the curve. Congratulations to you all!

  262. Wow. You guys are just awesome. Kerry and Jack thank you as well.
It’s been quite a week, but Jack’s improving each day. We’ve been essentially holding vigil at the hospital (now in Beverly) and it looks like he’ll be there for at least another week until he’s strong enough. It’s difficult not to have been able to bring him right home, having all those mental preparations thrown out the window. All that matters now is that he gets what he needs in order to come home.
Thanks for the all the well wishes from around the globe — it’s truly amazing!

  263. archmond says:

    Congratulations! :)

You know Dan, if you needed more help in the office you could of just put an ad in the paper, or better yet sent me an email. Now I have to run to Borders and pick up extra copies of “Bulletproof Web Design” and “Web Standards Solutions” for the little guy. We wouldn’t want him designing with tables now would we?
All kidding aside Dan, congrats to you and to your wife.

Just forget your past life, welcome to the new one!

  297. I’m more than a bit late, but I couldn’t pass on that.
Congratulations Dan, and mark my words: emotion-wise, it’s only the beginning.
Fifteen months already for us, and it’s still a blessing every day. We can’t believe how ecstatic the whole thing is.
(and in case anyone’s wondering, of course we hate getting up in the middle of the night, but those little beasts have a way of smiling in the morning that erases any nightly trial…)

Our first son (of three) was four weeks early and weighed only 5 lb., 10 oz. His skin literally hung on him and he looked oh-so-fragile. Now, just 14 years later, he’s 6’2″, 175 lbs., and has size 15 feet. So much for the fragile part :-)

  312. Gary says:

    Congratulations Dan!
Again our little boy, Alex was born three weeks early and weighed 5lb 11oz. He’s fast approaching his first birthday now and has been back up to a normal weight for many months. It won’t be long till Jack’s back up to a healthy weight as well.

  313. Ryan says:

These things never seem to go as you have planned. Our first arrived a week late and after 24 hours of hard labour required an emergency c-section to deliver. But, OMG, is she ever worth it.
Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy.
    Have fun!

  317. web says:

We just celebrated Ariana’s 1st Birthday/Christmas – she too was early (5 weeks)… Apparently she didn’t want to miss Christmas so she showed up on the 25th of December 2004… Now she’s a little rug rat – scooting all over the place – don’t know what I’m going to to when she starts walking…
Your coming year will fly by and will be filled with the most incredible experiences – BTW, nap when he does – trust me…

  321. Tim Hill says:

  343. It was nearly 10 years ago that I first became a parent. What a deep, humbling, and transformative experience it’s been.
While you’ve begun your journey into parenthood with more than a few complications, it’s clear that you, Kerry, and Jack are in good hands.
    I wish you the best.

As a parent of a 3lb premmie(3 months early) I know the heart wrenching u must endour. Be strong and brave. Bond with ur child, ensure their place on this earth and all will be as it is meant to be, and u will come out of it a better person. My premmie is now 16 years old and doing fine. Don’t dwell, just react. all the best to u and ur wife.

  350. dotjay says:

Congratulations Dan! A wonderful Christmas gift indeed! Happy New Year too!

  351. Charity says:

Congratulations on your new arrival! I know first-hand how scary it is to have a preemie. My son decided to come 5 weeks early and was also under 5 pounds. He spent his first 12 days in the neo-natal intensive care unit because of an open duct between his heart and lungs. Now he’s a wonderfully precocious 6yr old and I can never shut him up! :) Many blessings to you and your family. This too shall pass.

  352. Minh says:

  353. Congratulations!
We got our little 4-week-early preemie last June, 2005, and although he’s a little smaller than average, he’s doing great. A quick search through the comments revealed the one word missing to describe your new baby. The one word my Grandmother used when my son was born: Miracle.

  354. Todd says:

I know I’m a little bit late to the party in terms of saying congratulations, but… congratulations! We had a very similar experience with our boy Henry last year. He came 6 weeks early on 12/21.
    Enjoy your new treasure!
